RESEARCH INTERESTS:

My research program focuses on the development of novel nanostructured materials with highly controlled architectures and chemistries for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications. The materials developed through this research will address some of the key challenges of regenerative medicine and drug delivery. We plan to exploit classical engineering principles to increase understanding of the ways that cells receive information from materials, and what happens to cell function over time when assembled within 3D microenvironments. The goal of our research program is to design novel surfaces for understanding the underlying biology of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and engineer novel therapeutic approaches. Specific areas of research include:

  1. BulletTissue Engineering-Liver, Brain and Cancer: To develop tissue engineering models of liver, brain, and cancer using a combination of physical, chemical and biological cues at the cellular level.

  2. BulletNano-scale Drug Delivery System for Gene Therapy: To design novel drug and vaccine delivery systems, which provide spatial and temporal regulation of drug signaling or stem cell growth and differentiation from the targets identified above.

  3. BulletNovel Thin Films for Sensor Applications: To engineer microarrays of biomaterials for high throughput screening as biosensors.
